Night Before Prom
"My daughter and her friends went to Shelburne Tap House Saturday night before prom and were surprised to learn that someone had paid for their dinner. They were so appreciative, and we want to say a big THANK YOU to this kind and generous person. You really made their night."
The Weather Was Crisp But Beautiful
"When it came time to play the National Anthem, the announcer ran into technical difficulties and couldn't get the recording to work. Without missing a beat, a group of young men in the BFA crowd began singing the first verse of 'The Star-Spangled Banner.' Within moments, the rest of the crowd joined in, and soon a chorus of voices rose above the grandstand.
National Long Distance Sidecar Dog
Last week, Pete shared an invitation to a talk he would be giving at the library. We thought it was well worth a share:
"You've probably seen us around the village in our bright yellow sidecar. What you didn't know is that Glenlivet, the remarkable dog I lost last autumn to cancer, was a four-time winner of the National Long Distance Sidecar Dog award with over 50,400 miles under his collar!
Walk to School Day
"This morning, in the rain, something beautiful happened. Volunteers and parents showed up across our city, at intersections, on the sidewalks, at the WSD school entrance, to walk alongside our kids and make sure they felt safe, seen, and supported. They didn't have to do that. They chose to. And that choice matters more than I can say.
Charen Shared This Request
"Btw, I don't have a shed or sheep, but I enjoy those activities. Hit me up!"
Tire Fairy of Vergennes
“When I arrived... the tire was miraculously full of air. I was stunned, confused, and amazed! Flabbergasted with gratitude! Confounded with appreciation! Flummoxed by indebtedness!
Dog Parade
"Lu's 2nd birthday is on Saturday, and we're inviting anyone with a dog to walk by our home and grab a dog treat (will be at the end of our driveway, maybe in a container if it's raining). We'll be keeping an eye out from the window, as usual! Thanks for brightening our days!"
Slow Moving Frogs
"Somehow, without cell phones or even Front Porch Forum to help them coordinate, frogs and salamanders of the woods pick the same handful of warmish rainy spring nights to cross the roads en masse to vernal pools.Tonight will likely be another such night!
A Blue Ribbon Pie
"Today I had the pleasure of attending the 'Back Roads Stories' event at the Broad Brook Community Center. I told a story about a blue ribbon pie, baked solo, by my then 9-year-old daughter, and its not-so-tragic demise at the fair. The pie was baked using her great-great-great-gramma's recipe. I was asked if I would publish the recipe. So, here it is!
Take It Easy on the Back Roads
"I think my priest calls this kind of thing an opportunity. An opportunity to be better in mud season. Be a better neighbor, save the town some money on gravel.
Amtrack Dropped Me Off
It was dark and raining lightly, and they refused to leave me alone for 10 minutes until my friend picked me up after a slight miscommunication.
Friendly Recycling
"I have experienced a lot of laughter, and some tears, engaging with people that I had never met before or recognized, but still strangers. We all need connection and I am always pleased to see people sharing small talk, taking time to relax, listen, letting their guard down, feeling that they are a member of the pack.
